The idea concerning the organization of the present International Competition of Young Singers of Popular Music in Yurmala occurred to two composers - Igor Kroutoy and Raimonds Pauls practically at the same time.

In a telephone conversation Mr. Kroutoy told to maestro about his idea to organize a new competition, which will be different from all competitions ever held in Russia and CIS countries. According to Igor Kroutoy, today in the world of popular music there are many dull and untalented singers and groups "only for one day". And not so many real stars. According to results of the competition will be opened new, bright names, original personalities, strong voices. Raimonds Voldemarovitch supported Igor Yakovlevitch: a peculiar "musical crisis" is felt not only within the Russian show-business, but also in all CIS countries. More over, underlined Raimonds Voldemarovitch, if the organization of this contest will be performed by "ARS" holding, where Igor Kroutoy is a President, the status of the contest will be impeccable.

After the main objectives of a future competition had been determined, there started active preparations to compiling a plan of work.

Vocalists of the group “Putnu balle” (Chicken Run) Kārlis Būmeisters and Valters Frīdenbergs met 16 years ago when at the age of two they were accepted to the children pop group “Dzeguzīte” (Cockoo). It was “Dzeguzīte” where both achieved their first success by singing repertoire composed by the maestro Raimonds Pauls – most popular songs of that time which are still fresh in memory of many people like “Piena ceļš” (Milky Way) and “Anniņa vanniņā” (Little Ann in Little Bath). In 1996, in the ceremony of “Latvijas Mūzikas Gada balva” (Annual Musical Award of Latvia), the album of “Dzeguzīte” “Piena ceļš” (Milky Way) gained the prestige title of the Bestselling Album. Together with “Dzeguzīte” Kārlis and Valters have travelled to 22 countries and have also visited the most famous concert hall of the world “Madisson Square Garden” in New York.

At the moment both boys are members of the group “Putnu balle” and are working together with Mārtiņš Freimanis. Currently the most popular song of “Putnu Balle” is “Sapņu pārdevējs” (Seller of Dreams) written by M. Freimanis, in the Music Video show of the LNT (Latvian Independent Television) owing to this song “Putnu Balle” gained an opportunity to shoot a video. Under the guidance of the director Kristaps Streičs a video was created for the third radio single of the group “Spārni un vējš” (Wings and Wind). The first album of “Putnu Balle” is expected to be launched in spring; the album will contain several songs composed by Mārtiņš Freimanis.

In the last year's national selection of the Eurovision Song Contest, Valters was Chilli's back vocalist, but this year together with Kārlis both are taking part in the selection as soloists. The boys note: “We would never think of anything like that but when working with Mārtiņš Freimanis this is not the only thing we can expect!”
